Sure it can; politeness is a personality trait. This is a physical skill. They aren’t really related :) If you mean, will it work if you do it gently, and the answer is unfortunately, most likely not. As with any martial arts technique, the success of the technique’s application hinges on your executing the technique “like you mean it”. What I would suggest is that you simply train the technique over and over with a friend until you can do it really quickly and without thinking about it.
