VERY Interesting; If you are polite or patient with others, they are more likely to be patient and polite with you! "What goes around really does come around!"

I truly believe that young people today do not cue into stereotypes like the middle aged and older people. I don't believe that the reactions of younger people even 10 years ago can be applied to young people today. I'm over sixty and what I have observed is that the young adults of today do not react to the same trigger words simply because they have evolved to a point where they no longer make these types of generalizations. I wonder if this study is obsolete.

So the first thing I wonder is, how old were the participants? I believe that older participants would be more reactive to those subtle trigger words, whereas younger participants would not react the same way. A lot of it in my mind is association with either oneself or an elderly relative or friend.

In this study, the participants were young, college-aged participants. Age shouldn't matter much, however, because the idea is that most people are aware of stereotypes about age and slowness. The sentence unscrambling unconsciously reminded people of those stereotypes, which had an impact on their behavior. I'm curious, though, why you think older adults would show a stronger unconscious priming effect?
