My house has a well. I'm not looking for a valve to shut off the water; that's what the "ON/OFF" handles are for. I tried changing the shower head, but have come to the conclusion that I'm way too pretty for such a nasty, dirty job. *Meanwhile, it took me 5minutes to get my new shower-head installed. I asked a man-as it's a man'a job... :)

I have a shutoff valve inside the house that shuts off water to the whole house. Can I shut the water off at this valve, or do I have to shut off the water at the water main outside?
Teach2Build
Thanks for watching! As long as the shower handles don't get turned on while you're changing the head, you don't necessarily have to shut of the water to the whole house. The shower handles control water to the shower head, so turning them off is enough. Have fun!

I live in the country and use well water. Do I need to turn off the well pump before doing any plumbing repairs? Wonderful lesson!
Teach2Build
Please forgive me for the delay in answering! The vast majority of homes on a well still have a main water shutoff at the house, somewhere. That can be turned off with no need to touch the well when working on supply lines. If you can't find a separate shut off, turning off the power to the well is usually as easy as flipping the appropriate breaker. This isn't an issue if you're just changing your showerhead. Just leave the shower off, and change away! Now, go tackle that project!
