Should the terra cotta pots be glazed on the inside? It seems that would defeat the purpose of the pot letting the plants and water breath, however I read a review of someone complaining that it sucks out all of the water from the soil, drying out the plant sooner. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

What about veggies together?
Sunset Seminars
So long as your container is big enough, vegetables with similar light and water needs can be planted together. But I'll tell you—probably the most common mistake I see is people planting baby plants too closely together. They make start small, but plants (and their roots!) need room to reach maturity. Be sure to read the label that comes with the plant and follow those spacing instructions.
