Here in Pa we have some swampy/freshwater-marsh areas where a lot of Cattails grow. My grandpa taught me to use the heads for fire tinder and great insulation! You stuff a bunch of those tops in your socks, coat arms, long johns, etc. and you will be warm and toasty @ your debris shelter! I have tried it and it really does work for both tinder and insulation. In spring you can dig up the root (tuber) and its a starchy substitute for potatoes!

Great shelter idea! This could apply to many environments even without leaves other debris could be gathered.

Definitely, you could use dry moss, ferns, bark and tons of other forest material...or if trapped in a car you could rip out the seat cushions and wrap them around you--its all based on the properties of insulation. Thanks for watching!
