And what about a tripod? Always, Sometimes?

tripods are awesome depending on the application. 1) long exposure (like very low light in a room, for real estate). 2) perfect stitching images for panorama 3) perfect for multiple exposure like, real estate again where 1 flash can light different part of a room for accents, then merge it all in photoshop. 4) very good for HDR 5) last but not least, very good for macro photography, as fstop tend to be pretty high, and the depth of field is so short that a tripod is quite necessary.
