In lesson 9 when Alexa pronounces singular ( il ) and elle, and then pronounces them using the plural form of ( ils, and elles no matter howmany times I listen. ) I cannot detect the S sound

Hello Sheila, that is because you do not pronounce the 's'. It does sound exactly the same as 'il' and 'elle' (singular form).
