Jason Baskin
Traditional and CG Artist/Educator

I'm a Portland, Oregon-based traditional and CG artist/educator. I've been creating artwork and animation for print, broadcast, and game projects since 1991, producing character designs, 3D models, rigs, scripts, and animations for clients such as LAIKA/House, SEGA, Disney Interactive, Intel, and Columbia Sportswear. Last year, I completed work on a full character rigging pipeline for SEGA’s Alien: Isolation console game. I also created illustrations for my first chapter book, Ordinary Dogs, Extraordinary Friendships (Graphic Arts Press, 2013) and my artwork earned praise from Kirkus reviews.

For the past eight years, I have served as a full-time Instructor at the Art Institute of Portland, teaching 3D Animation, Character Setup (Rigging), Organic and Hard Surface 3D Modeling, MEL Scripting, and Senior 3D Production Classes. I've also created original online course content for the Virtual Training Company, Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, and Lynda.com. I will complete my MFA in Illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design this fall.

I hope to continue leveraging my animation and character design skills to create artwork for children’s picture books and the editorial market. When I'm not working on a project or teaching, I stay busy with figurative and plein air oil painting, hiking, and spending time with my family.
