Why should I care about their emotional state?

I don't know why you should care, but they said that their emotional state might affect the results of experiments involving the rats. They didn't really go into why this would be so, and I really can't think of why it would be, but if their emotional state did affect the outcome of the experiments, then that would be an important thing to know.
