I think these are supplementary videos to class lectures that are not provided, because it shows how to use the mail utility, but it does not show how to set it up. I've searched google and have tried a few tutorials, but I cannot send and receive with gmail through the mail utility or postfix

Jeremy, hello and good morning! Yes, these were part of an introductory UNIX/Linux course that I teach at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) here in Arnold, Maryland. Are you trying to use the mail utility to send/receive using your GMAIL credentials? If so, I am pretty sure that in class we used the following steps in this tutorial to get things working (we were using Ubuntu VMs): https://easyengine.io/tutorials/linux/ubuntu-postfix-gmail-smtp/ Okay, let me know if this helps! Travis, Hi, good morning. Thanks for the response and for pointing me in the right direction. That tutorial uses an outdated CA certificate. I found a more current tutorial at https://www.linode.com/docs/email/postfix/postfix-smtp-debian7 ... although it is meant for Debian 7. Neither tutorial addresses the newer security issues implemented by Google, which has decided that SMTP is unsafe, and they prevented mail from postfix. But a couple of changed in their security settings fixed it. Thanks!!
