The shoes are beautiful but the material of the shoe does not look like fabric?

No they weren't Deborah. I used a patent shoe, which also worked as a double trial that fabric based paint worked as well. This way I can do this craft on patent and fabric and know it works.

That might be a great way to get them interested . . . or updating a simple pair of canvas tennis shoes. In my mind, I can see glitter everywhere. LOL
