It’s not about being a native speaker. Google “dragging words” when speaking.

This absolutely drove me crazy. I couldn’t make it through one session due to the dragging of words- an ESL no no.

Oh dear! Not sure what the fuss is but I'm a native speaker. There are many wonderful and valid accents in English and ESL students need to recognise and listen to a variety of these.
