I have acquired from my husband’s abandoned Montana ranch house a Bartlett treadle sewing machine. Cannot find much about it. Made in New Jersey in 1862. Am hoping to try to make it work. Have a new belt. Have oiled and cleaned it all over; my sewing machine man told me how the thread tension works. Am going to put the belt on next. I have an embroidery machine, Two Janomes, two featherweights and now a treadle! Amazing.

I loved this program , and I own 5 vintage sewing machines I can actually sew on and I love them all. Yes I have a "modern " one also, but hardly use it. I especially love my treadle machine . I am a quilter.

You sound just like me, Florence! Too many machines and not enough time to sew on all of them. I just got a treadle machine and need to learn how to use it, now that the new belt has been installed. These old machines are great for piecing and free motion quilting too.

I acquired a few vintage machine myself! Just don't have enough hours to use them all, but it's the maintenance I want to learn the most about a singer threadle that I own. Thanks
Chatterbox Quilts
Thanks for the comment, Dot. While the course deals with electric models, the principles of cleaning and maintaining still apply. If you have any specific questions, let me know and I'll try to help you with them.

I started this lesson out of curiosity and will be continuing it in the future. I have been blessed to inherit my mothers and grandmothers sewing machines. Moms is from the early 60's and is a singer 600E in a case and my grandmothers was from April 1941. I'm looking forward to being able to get them in good working order.

Thanks for the comment, Carrie! It sounds like you're going to have lots of fun rejuvenating those older machines. Let me know if you have any questions or comments as you go through the course.
