This video is clearly oversimplifying things, blaming employees' lack of success on the fact they "gossip, do not take initiative, don't go the extra mile." Surely, other factors are often at work and other skills (than taking on extra work and sitting in committees) are often more valued than being a hard and honoust worker. Knowing how to sell yourself is the key to success...not so much what you are selling.

Your interpretation is interesting and I always appreciate another perspective. These examples are not made up or arbitrary but fact-based given the many conversations with managers over 25 years across industries who provide feedback on why they chose grooming or promoting some employees over others. Thisis one of the often swept under the rug realities that employees need to understand.
