I'm not really sure I understand the rolling process, but then I don't have the tools in front of me yet. Maybe when I try it, it will be clearer. At any rate, thanks for a great lesson.

Hi Elizabeth - thank you for the feedback :) I did go over rolling rather quickly. Let's say the wool being felted has 2 sides and 4 edges. With Side 1 Facing UP, Roll from each edge X # of times. Flip it over making Side 2 facing up and roll from each edge # of times. The statement to give it "a quarter turn" just suggests a method for rolling from each edge, such as: roll from bottom edge, turn the piece clockwise so an adjacent edge is now in the "bottom" position and roll from that edge.
