Dr. Jason Gillis
Evidence-based training advice for fighters and coaches in mixed martial arts & combat sports

Dr. Jason Gillis is an Assistant Professor working in the Human Performance Lab at Salem State University. Dr. Gillis teaches Undergraduate and Graduate courses in strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, and research methods. Jason is an environmental physiologist by training and has a research interest in the influence of menthol on human temperature regulation, perception and performance. He is also interested in recovery interventions following muscle damage and the Science of combat sports.

Dr. Gillis has conducted research for the UK Ministry of Defense, charities like the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, rehabilitation hospitals in Canada and Norway, and for the sports drinks and supplement industry.

Jason completed his B.Sc (Hon) in Kinesiology at Dalhousie University in Canada, and went on to complete his Masters at KU Leuven University in Belgium, and at the Norwegian School of Sports Science in Norway. He completed his Ph.D. in England as part of the Research and Innovation Team at UK Sport in the run up to the Beijing and London Olympic Games.

Whether as a scientist, athlete, or coach, Jason is passionate about sports. He has a background in mixed martial arts and a particular interest in the science of fighting. In his spare time, he provides scientific support to athletes and coaches in combat sports.
