    Hi first off I would like to say thank you. I do have a question I hope you can help me with. Im very confused on how do you know what note is played on what string? (C note How do you know if its an open C or played on the G,G,or A string ) Im very new to all of this so Im sorry if this might sound like a dumb question. Thank you for any help

    Great questions! Since there are several Cs, Ds, etc. that are used in music, the way to know which one is which is where they are sitting on the staff (the 5 lines that we use to read music). For cello, an open C is going to be BELOW the staff and have two ledger lines along with it. The 4th finger C on your G string is between the 2nd and 3rd line of the staff. The 2nd finger C or 3rd finger C# on your open A string will be above the staff and will have one ledger line. I hope that helps!
