Do you have an opinion about painting clay vs. using colored clay? If I, for example, wanted to paint instead of using colored clay, would the end finishing step be different t?
Pollygone
Using paint all over the magnets could lead to the paint streaking when you varnish it. You will need to use acrylic paint as any other type of paint will eat up the clay. Personally I'd say avoid painting the whole thing due to the small size, but if you wanted to you should probably use a beige colour, in a more firm type of clay (like Fimo professional). If you choose to paint the entire thing you'd do it at the same time I painted on the eyes BUT wait a day or so between each colour/layer.
Pollygone
I think that for such a small object, colour clay would look more professional and 'cleaner' but don't let that stop you if you want to try.
