Why would a writer reputed to be good waste his time with this incongruous string of words. This may have something to do with “Usleyes” for this is second good writer to cover Usleyes in criptic nonsense

I think you might be referring to ‘Ulysses’ by James Joyce. You would benefit more from reading a dictionary than poetry.
