Christina H
Great lesson! An "H" is not, in fact, always pronounced in English, though. :)
Parler Français
That's a good point! There are some silent H's in English. :) In French though, all are silent. They do specify between "H muet" and "H aspiré". Both are silent, but the "H muet" will be treated as a vowel whereas "H aspiré" will be treated as a consonant. The "H aspiré" is usually signified in a dictionary by a * and the "H muet" is more common. In example, the "H muet" would look like: "l'homme" and "l'hiver" and the "H aspiré" would look like: "le hockey" or "les haricots".
Parler Français
In the example of "les haricots", where there is "les" + vowel sound, les is pronounced [layz]. Where there is "les" + consonant, les is pronounced [lay]. In this case, because "haricots" has an "H aspiré" which is a consonant, you would say [lay aricoh]. :)
