Sears buckles under debt, files for bankruptcy protection

(Global Edition) From the BBC World Service … After struggling for years under a heavy debt load and red-hot competition from e-commerce titans, Sears filed for bankruptcy protection today. The stage is set for confrontation tonight when the European Commission finally gets its hands on Italy’s draft budget. Afterwards, more high-profile business leaders are pushing back against Saudi Arabia as questions swirl around the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Finally, in a bid to tackle growing inflation rates, Sudan will print 100-pound banknotes Monday. But we talk to a professor who studies the region and says the efforts won’t be enough.
