This was very informative but I had always thought the Impressionists were influenced by the Japanese prints, whereas this lesson suggests the opposite. Am I wrong?

Hi Tom! Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm pleased you enjoyed the lesson. You're absolutely right. The Impressionists were indeed influenced by Japanese prints. That's the topic of a forthcoming lesson. What's also interesting is that a generation or so later, Japanese print artists of the first half of the 20th century (like Hiratsuka) were, in turn, looking westward (back to the Impressionists & European Modernists) for inspiration. It's a beautiful back-and-forth exchange. Cheers!
