How much is Malevich's Black Square worth? How much would it go for in an art auction? And would it be easy to replicate, so that layperson and the art expert will be able to say this is worth thousands and this one is worth $4? Personally, my nephew's drawing might be worth more.
Little Art Talks
It could! :P

Malevich's Black Square is "proof" that Marshall McLuhan was correct when he said: Art is whatever you can get away with. Malevich had the chutzpah to declare his Black Square art. That made it art. The Fates conspired to reward his chutzpah with recognition by the larger "art world" and so his Black Square is art. But is it good art?
Little Art Talks
There are many different ideas on what makes art "Art"- I've always thought "Is it good art?" is a far more productive question than "is it Art?" Though both are important to explore, I find that the first generates great conversations! Thanks for watching!

I find fascinating that, even after all these art movements that tried to eradicate the idea of traditional art, most people are still attached to it. We (me too sometimes) look for shapes, colors, representing or resembling the world as it's perceived. A black square representing a black square will nowadays still be confusing
Little Art Talks
Yes, I think it is very natural to look for familiarity in things we see for the first time.

Hi! I like your videos. Unlucky, it's hard to follow if the text on the screen says something different from what you're saying. I can't read something while I'm listening to something else and vice versa. :(
Little Art Talks
Hi Maura, I'm sorry that the text is confusing. Hopefully you can pause to read the text. I will keep this in mind for future videos.
