I also check and clean any aerator filters on my spigots. Debris from the inside of the pipes can and WILL clog them. As a matter of fact, it is a good idea to remove these filters BEFORE defrosting.

We leave a SMALL stream of water, made of both hot and cold, when the temps get to 20 or below. We live in the south, so that doesn't happen very often. LOL Also, we open all cabinet doors. This is our prevention protocol. When I have an old-timers moment and forget AND the pipes freeze, I leave the water spigots on full bore before applying heat to the pipes. When the water comes on, I know they are unfrozen.
