So What's the difference between Kun and On?
Learn Japanese Kanji
Hi Yang, the kun reading of a character is the Japanese reading, and the on reading is the Chinese reading, or pronunciation. As a general rule, when a word is made up of just one kanji character (or one kanji character with hiragana following it), it will have the kun pronunciation. When a word is composed using two or more characters, it will be read using the on reading.
