Don’t you think a strong emotional component also explains violence in games? The nuances and daily struggles we face in real life are exhausting. Games appear as a way to channel our frustration through actions without consequences. They enable us to become the hero who saves the day - which I believe we all want to be, but it is easier when grey areas are removed and skills are acquired through clear levels. Structurally, the SIMS work as well as Die Hard, but they evoke real life too much.
