Why white gesso instead of white paint?
Darrell Crow Studios
I use white gesso for two reasons. First its good as a medium. I mix it with other colors to achieve what I call a first lighter color. I will frequently cover the canvas with white gesso which will blend for the next 20 minutes or so with colors I add after that. This lightens colors so I can easily paint skies, and water, etc. Secondly, I like using white gesso as a not so bright white paint. As you know, acrylics dry darker. So I use Titantium white as a brighter white.
