As the spouse of a fisherman (and proponent of such keep big fish to promote size and age growth amongst the smaller of any species), I am a bit confused by this "argument" (theory?) about fish genetics and their evolution. Especially as it applies to our typical DNR regulations regarding specific species catch and keep size laws. Would our laws then, not be encouraging a greater growth of each individual species, thus leading to a long term diminished species size?

This is in regards to phenotype. Usually the laws are in regards to fish age. However, the law in long term, if mass fishing causes a huge competitive force in the population then it is possible. But fishing in most places isn’t always the biggest competitive force.
