How do you respond when students complain about learning Algebra? I'm enjoying your lessons. Thanks for sharing.
Al Richards
I explain that algebra is really the language of math, so learning algebra is really learning the most common way to communicate mathematically. All the "rules" of algebra are mostly ways to simplify things to put them in their most simple form. I have used an example like this. The formula for the volume of a sphere is V = 4TTr^3/3. Without algebra we'd have to write this to use this formula, " volume equals four times pi times the radius cubed divided by three". They should get the idea.

Thanks for that enlightening answer! You've got me thinking about algebra in a different way. I'll have to use your answer on my kids!
