Is what I am learning relative to Cubase 5?
In Your Ear
I'm using versions 7, and 7.5 for the tutorials. However the basic principals will be the same for version 5. There may just be a few things that look slightly different, but for the most part it's the same. The only thing that will be drastically different is the mixer, Steinberg did a complete overhaul in version 7.

The software will allow you to record at 24 bit 96 kilo from there you can mix down to 44.1 : 16 DVD/CD

I really want to make professional sounding recordings in Cubase 7.5 64 but I don't which sample rate to choose? And then I'de like to start practicing on mastering and learn how to mix it down the right way for a really good sounding mix. I know I'm asking a lot but I really trust your opinion.
In Your Ear
Hey Chris! Well there are a few things you have to consider when choosing a sample rate. Is it a music or a video project? If it's music you need to use either 44.1k or 88.2k, if its for video you need to use 48k. The reason for this is CDs and radio stations are always, and forever 44.1. And if you use anything other than 48 for video work, it wont sync up correctly. That being said if your interface can handle it, and you have the hard drive space you can alway record at 96k and down convert.
In Your Ear
96k is also good for archiving, so keep that in mind as well. But the other (and actually more important) thing to consider when recording is actually the bit depth. Humans are A LOT more sensitive to bit depth then we are to sample rate. So no matter which sample rate you choose for your projects make sure you're recording at 24bit! Hope this helps!
Chris S
So 24/96 is the way to go because I have the hard drive space to do it.

I have alot of questions and really want to know how to use my Cubase 7.5 but it seems like Cubase has such a big learning curve for me since I've been using FL Studio for so long. I know your time is valuable and I've learned so much from this tutorial compared to the hundreds of dollars I've spent and didn't even know how to create a project folder because most guys use Pro Tools. What would it cost to get more lessons on the things I want to learn because I know your time is valuable. Thanks
In Your Ear
The only other option that I offer is I have an expanded version of the "Mastering Cubase 7" series that we sell through our website. It's about twice as long, and interactive so there's more hands on practice.
Chris S
How much is it? And where's it located on your site? What version did I purchase? And thanks by the way I've learned alot.
In Your Ear
Good I'm glad it's been helpful! If there are Club Cubase meetings near you, I would suggest going to those too. But anyways go to lobe.com and look under the classes tab. Like I said it's a longer, and interactive version of this course. So each lesson is embedded in a Cubase project, so you have to interact with the program as I lead you through the lesson.
